Augason Farms is a family owned business that began in 1972. This company offers dehydrated and freeze dried foods for your storage convenience. Double Nickel Farm is hosting not one but two separate giveaways! One is for the Breakfast Pack~ the other is for the Dinner Pack.

For this giveaway all you need to do is leave a comment. You may comment once a day on Double Nickel Farm and once a day on New Mexico Preppers for seven days...the winner of the Dinner Pack will be announced next Thursday April 29!

I have written often about preparing for times ahead. Augason Farms offers products that will enable you to do so, with products that are delicious, nutritious and prepared for a long shelf life. Properly stored these products can last from 20- 30 years!
Vegetable Stew Blend

Sweet Corn

Creamy Potato Soup

Vegetarian Beef

Honey White Bread and Roll Mix

Potato Gems

Don't forget the contest ends Wednesday April 28 at 11:59 pm.

Please remember that poor financial management by a government can and will impact its citizens. Now is the time to prepare for the worst and expect the best.

ps...the winner will need to forward me their email address and home address!

Have a Great Week!

Been meaning to talk a bit more about the Blue-chip folks over on utahpreppers.com. I've got a lot of their stuff in my storage right now, it's great stuff.

Glad to see them working with a preppers group.

I've looked at both packs and notice they're rather heavy on starch and especially refined carbs. That is, empty calories. I understand that people doing heavy labor need all that fuel, but I've been on whole-grains for a good many years now (oatmeal, not creamy wheat cereal; whole wheat bread, not white bread).

And I also note that it offers corn and potatoes, just like the country restaurants that call corn a vegetable. (No. It's not. Nutritionally, corn and potatoes are variations on a theme.)

So the contents of these packs strike me as a wee bit disappointing. But probably a lot more to the popular taste than what I've been eating.

Patricia- I think that it is important as a prepper to note everything about the foods one eats. That said, in a time of a crises, having food that requires no refrigeration that can be made with relative ease is critical. I must also note that in a crises a person usually is exerting much more energy just based on emotion and stress etc, so these empty calories may not be a daily need, but most certainly one during a crises.

As one who lives on a farm and grows much food and raises my own animals, I most recommend the food as close to the original as possible.

That said, I bet the folks who are and have experienced living through a natural disaster would struggle to worry about the food except that they *had* food. Having food storage grants a window whether to allow a garden to grow, or for infrastructure to be rebuilt...it is not just to eat every day. But as I recommend throughout my postings food storage should be a combination of foods- dried, canned, etc and preps, to include seeds etc.

Thank you for your input
Jennifer

Well, I'm hoping for a win, but realistically have decided to just collect the different food items, plant, harvest and can a whole lot more this year. I have found that I am shopping way too much for food and should reconsider year round gardening. I was thinking of doing a huge tire garden in all the empty areas on our property. Pray for me to be successful.

I have to agree that in a crisis, HAVING food will be much more important than WHAT KIND of food you have. I love corn but prefer it fresh or frozen ...I can leave a can of corn in the cupboard for a year and never be tempted. HOWEVER, in a food crisis, I bet canned corn would be a real treat even to me.

I think the food pack is an amazing prize for your giveaway, Jen. I will have to sit this one out though. I'm going out of town tomorrow and will be gone through Sunday.

So best wishes to all who do enter ...you won't be disappointed!
